Sports science aspect into it – wii based games, how aware you become about very slight motions. Good for building up skills.

TECHNOLOGY

EA active for wii fit – measures up and down etc. Something that straps to the outside of leg like this? Nunchuck.

Wii remotes aren’t very sensitive.

Motion plus, new bolt on for the wii remote (more sensitive)

Motion plus is two gyroscopes, gives 6 positions of freedom. Can detect when one sensor is offset from another one.

Practice with joystick – acceleration, and measuring if it skews.

WITH A WII REMOTE STRAPPED TO THE LEG SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

- Sense of the ball was kicked and it took this path. Practice with moving the wii remotes like they’re a pendulum.

- Should be able to sense the rotation in the leg too.

Blender talks OSC and so does max.

Get stuff into Max via wii remote, then send it via OSC into Blender.

In Max objects to use – udp send & udp receive

snmat stuff?

How to fix latency (delay in Blender), see what that is.

Constantly polling values.

Peak & trough in Max (i.e. this was the biggest number so far, and that number hasn’t changed for a while then you can assume it’s not moving). Or we can have something that’s permanently happening.

Angle (i.e. tipping like a marble). Modifier – friction & gravity as modifiers. So if you hit something at x speed, it slows down after this amount of time. Multiplying by something less than one.

Looking at positive and negative forces on an action – find formulas for doing this. Blender does have it’s own physics engine, or do we use one built into Max.

If it’s not still changing & it’s not zero you can assume it’s reached it’s limit… and the action happens.

Momentum – in Max?

PMPD – external library in max. Or could do it in javascript in max…

Forces

- have I kicked it straight or have i skewed it…

- physics in the way a ball will control and skew

- also need to measure when something stops (going back) to when something comes forward again (pendulum motion)

- find something like a golf game in Flash and borrow actionscript code from and turn it into javascript in Max.

- also collision detection – HOW ARE WE GOING TO MEASURE THIS?!?

Soundwise

- max to FMOD

- are ways to directly link Blender to FMOD.

Where should it go?

- leg? foot? top of foot/ side/ back.

Reasearch-wise

- differentiate certain things that are in development (i.e. shinpad) and golf games, putting on foot instead of a golf club.

Likes haptic thing – feel a buzz when you kick it.

Also think about what you’re doing with the other foot? – thinks

- step onto dancemat

- can we measure where one thing is in relation to another thing?

- where feet are in relation to each other, behind the ball will chip it, to be in front if hitting it harder.

- board could also give a way of tracking angles – if know it’s at right angles.

To extend beyond notion of just kicking the ball

- ball can come towards you

- trapping the ball, with one foot and then with the second foot you’re going to kick it

- orientation of the (left) foot on the dancemat, gravity measure on the board the first point that goes down and the point the toe (second point) goes down on.

Realism or Wiiism

- colours even

- making your team and  how that is

- World cup, national identity

Corners?

- Aiming to get the ball into a particular space.

- at least pay attention to in writeup – there are all these situations that we thought
